Life Admin!

Does life admin feel boring to you?

Bills that need paying. Letters you keep meaning to open. Appointments you still haven’t booked. Password resets. School letters that somehow arrive with a deadline of “Monday” (and it’s already Monday!).

It’s not glamorous, but it holds everyday life together. And when it’s neglected, it can quietly create chaos: missed bills, clutter, stress, and even strain on relationships, especially when one person is organised and the other one… isn’t.

The interesting thing is, most of us don’t avoid admin because we’re lazy.

We avoid it because it can feel:

  • overwhelming

  • boring

  • confusing (especially with online systems)

  • like we need to do it “properly”… and if we can’t do it perfectly, we’d rather not do it at all

  • or we feel a bit of shame because we’re behind

And the problem is, avoidance increases anxiety. It’s like having too many tabs open in your brain. You know they’re there, quietly draining you… until you finally close them and feel that wave of relief.

But it’s better to do a little bit imperfectly than to do none at all.

One simple thing that helps is this…

Book an actual life admin slot like it’s an appointment.
Weekly, fortnightly, or monthly, whatever suits your season.

Put it in your diary:
“Monday at 10am: Life Admin Hour” or “Friday at 3pm: Power Hour”.

Because if it isn’t scheduled, it gets pushed aside by things that feel more urgent (or more appealing).

If it helps, make it as pleasant as possible:

  • a nice drink

  • music

  • a candle

  • a comfy seat

  • or doing it alongside a friend or group

And in the next email, I’ll share some specific, practical hacks that came up in our HWFF (membership after the Healthy, Whole & Free Course) teaching session this week.

For today, just ask yourself:

Where could I put one admin slot into my week, even if it’s only 30 minutes?
