What's actually stopping you?

In our last blog I asked: What do you really want?

Here I want to explore something important.

If you’re not living in alignment with what you say you want, it’s probably not because you don’t know enough.

Most people already know:

  • They should sleep more.

  • Move more.

  • Stress less.

  • Eat better.

  • Be kinder to themselves.

Knowledge isn’t usually the issue.

And it’s not always a lack of discipline either.

More often, it’s this:

Unmet needs.

Unexamined thoughts.

Old beliefs.

Comfort-seeking.

Exhaustion.

Overwhelm.

Sometimes we are genuinely trying to look after ourselves…

But what that turns into is soothing ourselves in ways that don’t actually restore us.

Scrolling instead of resting.

Snacking instead of pausing.

Staying busy instead of being still.

Avoiding instead of reflecting.

It’s not that you want the wrong things.

It’s possible that you may be looking in the wrong places.

When we bring these unhelpful patterns before God, we start to see them clearly.

Instead of saying:

“I’m failing.”

We can begin to say:

“What’s really going on here?”

So here’s something to reflect on:

What’s currently stopping me from becoming the person I say I want to be?

Not in a blaming way.

Just with a willingness to explore.

Awareness is the beginning of freedom.
